We Are City Rise
City Rise is a new church in Albany, NY. We were founded with a mission of pointing people to Jesus through the life-changing message and power of the Gospel.
Pointing people to Jesus through the life-changing message and power of the Gospel.
We seek to unite believers and seekers under the uniting power of the Gospel.
Our Central Focus
Our central focus is the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the power it has to change lives.
City Rise does not seek to raise up any person but wholly worship Jesus Christ.
Our Core Values
We have 7 values that outline our mission of pointing people to Christ.
The Glory of God
At City Rise, our core values hang on the first one—to do all to the glory of God. We rise for the glory of God.
1 Corinthians 10:31
Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.
At City Rise, we believe fervent prayer is effective in the Gospel cause today. We rise in fervent prayer.
Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
At City Rise, we are entrusted with the Gospel, and so we speak boldly. We rise in Biblical preaching.
1 Thessalonians 2:4
But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, which trieth our hearts.
At City Rise, we believe the Gospel is the only thing that has the power to change lives. We rise on the Gospel.
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
At City Rise, we are committed to making disciples in our generation, in this city. We rise in discipleship.
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you…
At City Rise, we are intentional about biblical generosity and community. We rise in intentional generosity and community.
And all that believed were together, and had all things common; And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.
At City Rise, we believe our lives are to be postured for worship to Jesus Christ. We rise to worship Jesus.
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
Say hello to the City Rise team!
What We Believe
Below is a summary of our beliefs. Feel free to contact us with any questions.
We believe that God is one God and there is none other like Him. He alone is Holy, Righteous, and the Creator of all that is in existence. We also believe the Bible when it reveals that God is eternal, self-existent, unchanging, and without sin. We further believe in the Trinity of God. He is one God who makes Himself known through the Father, the Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. (Genesis 1:1, Malachi 3:6, Deuteronomy 6:4, 1 John 5:7, Psalm 5:4, John 1:1)
We believe that the Bible is the inerrant, infallible Word of God. We believe in the verbal-plenary inspiration of all Scripture as performed in the original texts. We also believe in the divine preservation of scripture and that the entire 66 books of the Bible are complete and sufficient for all of life. We believe that it is the priority of the church to preach, teach and study the scriptures for themselves on a daily basis for spiritual growth, conformity to Christ, and public gospel ministry. The Bible is our sole and final authority for faith and practice. (Isaiah 40:8, Matthew 4:4, 2 Timothy 3:15-16, Psalm 12:6-7, 1 Peter 1:23-25, 2 Peter 1:18-21)
We believe that Jesus Christ is the perfect manifestation of God in the flesh and that Jesus is the sole answer to mankind’s sin problem today. There is no other name under Heaven that people must turn to in order to inherit eternal life and avoid the unfortunate consequence of all their sin. Jesus is simply the Answer. He was sinless, perfect, born of a virgin, and lived to die for all sinners and also arose from the grave three days later according to the Scriptures. Jesus is eternally the Son of God and possesses all the attributes of divine Deity. He is the God-man. He is the sinless, substitute for all of mankind’s sin through the shedding of His own blood on the cross of Calvary. We believe that He ascended into Heaven just before the launch of the first church, and He is returning once again for His bride (the church). Through Jesus alone, all who come to Him in faith are justified, and will forever spend eternity with God in Heaven. (John 1:1, John 3:16, Romans 5:1-11, Luke 1:26-38, Acts 4:12, John 14:6, John 10:30)
We believe that the Holy Spirit of God is a part of the Trinity (God-head). The Holy Spirit of God is the means by which men are born again, regenerated and made alive. Outside of the work of the Holy Spirit of God there is no act of new life. The Holy Spirit has been working throughout history in the affairs of mankind and his primary ministry began on the day of Pentecost. Jesus said that when He (The Holy Spirit) was come that He would, “reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment.” We further believe that he was sent to sanctify, seal, fill and guide the church into all truth. (John 16:8, Acts 1:5, 1 Cor. 3:16, 1 Cor. 6:19-20, 12:13, Ephesians 5:18, John 3:5-6, John 14:6)
We believe all men were born with a sin nature. We believe the only hope of salvation for all of mankind is through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ (Read about Jesus Christ above). We believe that only through the substitutionary sacrifice of Christ on the cross can a man be delivered from his sin. We believe that all those who reject Jesus Christ as Savior are already condemned to an eternity in the lake of fire. We also believe that salvation is not through works, religion, or even the best of human efforts. Furthermore, we believe that ALL men are candidates for salvation and that eternal salvation is available to all men by grace through faith alone, even though all men will not personally receive the free gift of salvation in Christ Jesus. Consequently, we preach and teach “Whosoever will may come!” (Genesis 5:1-5; Acts 4:19; Acts 16:31; Romans 3:10-23; Romans 5:6-12; Romans 6:23; Romans 10:9-10; Ephesians 2:8-9; 1 Timothy 2:4 Titus 3:5-6; 2 Peter 3:8-10, Revelation 20:11-14)
We believe that the church began with the calling out of the twelve apostles by Jesus Christ and was empowered on the day of Pentecost. We believe the local church is composed of members who have been saved and baptized (by immersion) according to the command of Christ, and have voluntarily united together for the purposes of worship, fellowship, service, and observance of the ordinances of both baptism and communion. We believe all true believers will be taken up at the rapture, just prior to the tribulation. (Matthew 16:16-18; Acts 1:15; Acts 2:41-43; Acts 11:15; Acts 20:28; 1 Corinthians 15: 51-58; Ephesians 1:12-14; Ephesians 5:25-30; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; 1 Timothy 3:4-15)
We believe in the pre-tribulational rapture of the church saints, followed by the seven-year tribulation. We believe in the pre-millennial return of Christ to the earth and His literal rule of 1,000 years. Following this one-thousand-year reign is the Great White Throne judgment and then the new heaven and new earth. Furthermore, we believe that we are living in a time where God’s hand is mighty and working throughout the world. We are not fatalistic in mission, but we are active in the mission that God has given us. (1 Corinthians 15:51-58; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; 1 Thessalonians 5:1-9; Revelation 19-22)
We believe in world missions and that missions is the heartbeat of God. Because we are a church plant in the Northeast we are first committed to our own mission field and have the desire and burden to reach those beyond Albany as well. We believe that world missions is a part of God’s plan to disciple and reach the lost. We believe that God has died for all men and that one day all who come to him in faith will forever worship and serve the King of kings and Lord of lords. We further believe that God has given the local church the great commission to proclaim the Gospel to all nations so that there might be a great multitude from every nation, tribe, ethnic group, and language group who believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. As ambassadors of Christ we must use all available means to go to the foreign nations and not wait for them to come to us. Furthermore, we plan, from the beginning, by God’s grace and leading to plant more churches right out of City Rise Baptist Church. (Matthew 28:19-20; Mark 16:15; Luke 24:46-48; John 20:21; Acts 1:8; 2 Corinthians 5:20, Revelation 7:9)
